Established in January, 2022 after a void in the entertainment industry. Jan 22 Productions is a 1st Generation Black Caribbean woman-owned indie entertainment company, dedicated to centering underrepresented voices, particularly medium and dark-skinned Black women with tightly coiled hair, in film and media. Our award-winning team crafts authentic, joyful, and healing stories that empower marginalized communities, foster belonging, and spark important dialogue.
Our latest project, "home.girls," is a proof-of-concept short film focused on sisterhood and healing for young women of color navigating underrepresented spaces. We pay our diverse cast and crew equitably and bring vital stories to the screen, like never before, inspiring audiences and validating regular Black girls and women that our existence is more than enough. Our first project under our Jan 22 Productions banner is Tongue In Cheek, a short film Executive Produced, Directed, Written and Starring Tai Brown. Tongue In Cheek has screened in theaters all around the U.S.A during its 2023 Festival Run Tour. Our film also had a 1 Week Distribution deal on the Love Wins Channel. Jan 22 Productions is 1 out of 4 winners from thousands of applicants to receive the 1st ever 10K SheaMoisture 2023 Blueprint Grant. The award included a mentorship meeting with Tina Knowles. Tongue In Cheek is viewable on our Youtube Channel starting February 1st, 2024 for free. Our sophomore short film is in pre-production and will become a hit TV series. home.girls script is a TDE Finalist for the Top Dawg Entertainment short film fund.
