About Us & Our Credits
Established in January 2022 in response to a clear void in the entertainment industry, Jan 22 Productions is a first-generation Black Caribbean woman-owned indie entertainment company dedicated to centering underrepresented voices—particularly medium and dark-skinned Black women with tightly coiled natural hair—across film and media. Our award-winning team creates authentic, joyful, and healing stories that empower marginalized communities, foster belonging, and spark meaningful cultural dialogue.
Our latest project, home.girls, is a proof-of-concept short film rooted in sisterhood and healing, following young women of color navigating underrepresented and predominantly white spaces. Through equitable pay practices and intentional hiring, we ensure our diverse cast and crew are valued while bringing vital, resonant stories to the screen—stories that affirm to everyday Black girls and women that our existence is more than enough. Thank you for considering Jan 22 Productions as an agent of positive change in Hollywood.
Our debut project under the Jan 22 Productions banner is Tongue In Cheek, a short film executive produced, written, directed by, and starring Tai Brown. The film screened theatrically across the United States during its 2023 festival run and secured a one-week distribution deal on the Love Wins Channel. Jan 22 Productions was selected as one of four winners nationwide to receive the inaugural $10K SheaMoisture Blueprint Grant in 2023, which included a mentorship meeting with Tina Knowles. Tongue In Cheek has been available to watch for free on our Youtube Channel since February 1st, 2024.
Our sophomore short film, home.girls, is currently in pre-production and is being developed as a hit television series. The script is a Top Dawg Entertainment (TDE) Short Film Fund Finalist. We are actively fundraising $30K to bring the film to life: http://spot.fund/sm5n3ghsc
